Tags are the only way to tell the ranks of those within the home, whether it be in the north or the south. There’s usualy no shortage of tags to leave you wondering. It just requires some observation, and paying attention.
It’s important to greet the Administrator, Ubar or Jarl promptly and according to station.

Slaves do not speak the name of a free persons name, so greeting in terms of the persons first name would not be a very good idea unless it was another slave.

Free who don’t know another very well, and are not of caste to another free person, should not greet as brother or sister. Greeting by rank name or caste name is usually a safe way to go about it. If the person is of caste, then brother or sister is acceptable. If you know the person well, then first names might be acceptable if it is agreed upon by the other person. It’s a good idea to just ask first.
